Mandalay Hill
Edit ThisThe hill overlooking Mandalay city is covered with payas and other religious buildings. From the bottom, it's quite a hike to the top. You better take a pick-up to the paya on top of the hill (25 cents) and then stroll down. On your way down, you have plenty of places to stop for a rest or visit sacred places. The entrance fee is 2.50 US$ for tourists. The area looks a bit like Disneyland with foodstalls, music, vendors etc. A very nice atmosphere.

Mandalay Fort
Edit ThisIt was built in 1860. The king built immense walls (8 m high) around this wooden palace. At each corner there's a watchtower. The walls from tower to tower are 2 km long. Around the palace is a moat of 70 m wide and 3 m deep. The whole area was under construction years ago, and the government forced people to drag the moat. Entrance fee is 5 US$.

U Bein's bridge
Edit ThisThis is an old teak bridge connecting the monastery with the Kyauktawgyi Paya crossing Taungthaman lake. It's a nice and peaceful place. Take bus nr. 8 from Mandalay (corner 84th and 29th street) and ask the driver to stop at the bridge.
