From Mersing by speed ferry or speed boat
Edit ThisThe speed ferry seat more people and take only marginally longer - perhaps taking 2.5 to 3 hours to the island. These cost approx. RM 70 return. The last boat is about 4:00 p.m. so don't get tricked by anyone saying there is a 24 hour service so they can sell you a ticket. When you take either kind of boat, you can ask them to drop you wherever you want on Tioman island. You have to tell in advance.
The ferry port is just outside the center of Mersing town. From the JB-Rompin road, take Jalan Abu Bakar straight past the town for about 200 metres and the port will be to your left right after the Mersing Tourist Information Center. It is right next to the R&R Plaza which is the express bus station.
Please note:
1. Ferries do not depart on a regular basis, but are dependent on tide levels. Sometimes you wil be transferred by a smaller boat to the waiting ferry, just outside the harbour.
2. Departure times for other boats also vary, and even though you might be given a certain departure time it is common for the boats to wait in the harbour for 30 minutes or more to get as many passengers as possible. Be patient - you are on holiday!
3. Travel times are approximate, and depend on sea conditions.
4. Before leaving Mersing you will be asked to pay the RM 5 Marine Park Conservation fee.
