KLCC

KLCC stands for Kuala Lumpur City Center and it is the modern center of the city, clustered with high rises. The easiest location to see from just about anywhere in the city is the Petronas towers, which stand at roughly the cetner of KLCC. These towers were once the tallest in the world and are not too far down the list today. They also remain the tallest set of twin high rises in the world. Unlike many tall buildings, roof or top-floor access is not granted to the public. Rather, there is an observation deck on the Sky Bridge - a bridge linking the two towers about half way up. Access is free but there are a limited number of tickets available so its a good idea to arrive early. The sweeping views of the city are usually good from the Sky Bridge but can be limited by weather conditions (clouds, rain, or haze).

At the base of the towers is a large shopping mall named Suria KLCC. The shops inside are high-end, generally imported brands. This is not where to buy handicrafts but is a good location to buy desgner clothing or a handful of Petronas tower-themed knicknacks.

Behind the shopping mall is a park and green area. Open twenty-four hours a day, this is a nice place for a leisurely stroll by the fountains. If you travel with younger children, they will enjoy the wading pool with waterfall and the enormous play area featuring tons of swings, slides, climbing towers, and anything else little ones dream of for their playgrounds.

At the edge of the park is the Kuala Lumpur convention center with basement space devoted to Aquaria KLCC. This aquarium's main tank is filled with sharks, rays, and other exotic fish. Visitors pass UNDER the tank, along a conveyer, through a long winding tunnel with a see-through roof, allowing the fish to be observed from below and around.
