Melaka, a historical city of Malaysia, has many attractions for tourists to enjoy. Melaka Must Do’s include the following:

1. Eye on Melaka

Eye on Melaka, also known as the Ferris Wheel, is the most visited place in Melaka. Situated on the banks of Melaka River, the Eye is about 60 meters high. You can take a ride on the ferris wheel and enjoy the wonderful vista of the entire Melaka city sitting at the top point of the wheel. The Eye has 16 pods and each pod can carry about 5 adults at a time. Aside from the ride on the wheel 2 new attractions, namely a trampoline bungee and a pirate ship, have been added to the Eye. After the ride is over, you can unwind at the cafeteria and the Seafood Restaurant located inside the park of the Eye.

2. Pulao Besar

Located about 10 km south of Melaka, Pulao Besar is a mystical island considered to be a sacred site by the locals. Besides its sanctity, the place is one of the most enticing tourist spots in Malaysia. The island with its sandy beaches and impeccable natural beauty is ideal for tourists to spend a day swimming, snorkeling and fishing. The island also offers plenty of water activities, not to mention the awesome restaurants located nearby on the beach. Shaped like a pregnant woman, the island has many legends about its origin that continue to mystify people.

3. Trishaw Ride

One great way to explore Melaka is by traveling through its narrow alleys in a trishaw. A trishaw is a tricycle operated by a trishaw puller. Just feel free and enjoy the fascinating sights of Melaka city as you wander around in a trishaw. Trishaw rides are quite cheap and they are available at all important places of Melaka at any hour of the day.

4. Jonker Street

Also known as Jonker Walk, Jonker Street is a must visit before you leave Melaka. A variety of shops selling almost everything from antiques to trendy apparels and from wood carved artifacts to fashionable accessories will keep you busy throughout the day. Besides, there are plenty of restaurants to suit your palate. You may try out local cuisine like chicken-rice balls, curry noodles, dodol, and crispy barbecued squid. Especially during the weekends, the street wears a festive look with the shops staying open until midnight. Plenty of makeshift stalls will also definitely catch your attention.

5. Portuguese Square

Portuguese Square should be a must-see place on your itinerary. Located about 3 km east of Melaka town, the Portuguese Square looks vibrant during the evenings of the weekends. Various cultural programs exuding the Portuguese heritage are held. Plenty of restaurants are there to offer your palate traditional Portuguese cuisine or delectable seafood dishes. If you visit the place during festivals like Christmas, New Year and Festa San Pedro you may see the entire square beautifully illuminated with the whole Portuguese community celebrating the occasions through dancing, singing and merriment.
