Travel Information
- If you are planning to go to Malaysia you can choose from 30 different entry points. It is accessible through different airports in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Penang and Johor Bahru.
- If you plan to go by the water, you can enter Melaka through Penang and Port Klang.
- If you enjoy long rides you can travel by the road or through the train links.
Entry Requirements
You will need a Visa to enter Malaysia and use it to get to Melaka. Your passport or travel documents will need to have at lease 6-months' validity beyond the length of your stay. When you visit Melaka you will be charged RM5.00 or RM40.00 for a domestic or international airport tax, respectively. This will be charged upon your departure.
Customs and Law
If you enter Melaka with dutiable items you will be charged a temporary importation fee. This fee can be refunded upon your departure. Furthermore, you are prohibited from carrying illegal drugs and dangerous. The penalty for such offenses is death.
Miscellaneous Information
- Bahasa Malaysia is the national language in Melaka. Others locals may use Chinese or Tamil; so if you are visiting make sure that you familiarize yourself with the languages.
- With regards to climate; Melaka generally has warm weather and high humidity the whole year. Average temperature ranges from 21 degrees C to 32 degrees C so you might want to bring comfortable and lighter weight clothes.
- Melaka is 8 hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+8). So if you are from the United States, you have to adjust 16 or more hours from your local time.
- There is a new currency control law in Malaysia. This law requires every traveler to fill in the (TDF) Travelers Declaration Form upon arrival and during departure. This law states that you are not allowed to bring more than RM1000 cash.
