Getting There in Langkawi

Langkawi, Malaysia is located in the state of Kedah, Langkawi Getting There can be done a few different ways. Because the Langkawi region of Malaysia is an archipelago made up of approximately 99 islands most visitors either fly to Langkawi or arrive via ferry.

By Land - The closest you can get to Langkawi by land is to the Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal, where upon arrival you will need to take a ferry out to one of the islands. Buses run daily to the Kuala Kedah and Perlis Jetty Terminal, and the closest train station to either of the Jetty Terminals is the Alor Setar Train Station. From the Alor Setar Train Station a taxi to either Jetty Terminal will cost less than 20 RM.

By Air - Several different airline,s such as Malaysian Airlines (MAS), Air Asia (no frills airline), Firefly (from Penang), Happy Holidays (from Phuket), and Silk Air (from Singapore), operate daily services to Langkawi International Airport (LGK) which is located on Langkawi Island.

By Ferry - There are 4 different locations where you can board a ferry bound to Kuah in Langkawi. Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal is located in Perlis. Kuala Kedah Jetty Terminal is located in Kedah. Georgetown Jetty Terminal is on Penang Island and Satun Jetty Terminal is in Thailand. All offer ferry and boat service to Langkawi. There are several different companies offering the ferry service at each terminal at different prices, depending on traveling class, and direct or non-direct route.
