Getting Around in Langkawi
Edit ThisThere are several ways to travel around Langkawi, but be aware that there is no public transportation on the island. A hotel clerk or travel agent can help with any transportation bookings that need to be made.
Driving Yourself by Car or Motorbike
Driving in Langkawi is simple, as there is not much traffic on the island and coastal areas. You can rent a car or motorbike from your hotel or from a travel agency. Be prepared to bargain if the rental price is not to your liking. There are many gas stations, the locations of which are clearly marked on the main roads. Road signage is very good and the roads, while narrow, are easy to drive. If you don't want to rent a car or motorbike, there are many freelance drivers available for hire to drive you around the island. This is more expensive than renting your own transportation, but the drivers can show you around.
Taxi
Taxis in Langkawi are plentiful and are fairly inexpensive, as the islands are not very large. However, if you plan on doing a lot of driving, renting a car or motorbike might be a cheaper option.
Cable Car
An excellent way to view your surroundings in Langkawi is to take the cable car to the top of Gunung Mat Chinchang. The cable car affords a great view of the rainforests, waterfalls, ocean and some of the islands. The steepness of the ride, while not for the faint of heart, is a truly exciting experience.
