Beaches in Langkawi

Langkawi boasts an abundance of exquisite beaches. The variety of beaches means that there are plenty of options when deciding where to spend the day sun bathing. The area enjoys sunshine most of the year making it a good destination for a beach holiday. After visiting the more famous beaches you can go off and explore to find your own remote spot in the sun.
Pantai Cenang
Pantai Cenang is frequented by tourists and there are many resorts in this area. It is conveniently located near the airport. The popularity of this area means that there is an abundance of facilities and attractions. There are also shopping opportunities and good nightlife in the surrounding area. A recommended activity is to watch one of the breathtaking sunsets at this beach. Beach bars and restaurants offer refreshments and an escape from the sun. There are many water sports to take part in and there are boats for hire. Underwaterworld and Laman Padi are 2 nearby attractions.
Pantai Tengah
Pantai Tengah is located next to Pantai Centang. It is a smaller but quieter beach, so if you are looking to escape the crowds this is a better option. There are various facilities and beach activities in the area. This beach is a better choice for families and those looking for more privacy.
Pantai Kok
This beach is a remote beach situated on the northeast area of the island. Attractions of interest are Telaga Harbor, cable car rides and Telaga Tujuh waterfall. At Pantai Kok you can soak up the sun and marvel at the unspoiled natural beauty that surrounds you.
Tanjung Rhu
Tanjung Ru is situated 22 kilometers from Kuah in the north part of the island. When the tide is low it is possible to walk to Palau Chabang. Other activities include exploring the caves that are in the vicinity of this beach and visiting the mangrove swamp. Boats are available to hire and horse riding is on offer.
Pantai Teluk Burau
Pantai Telek Burau is situated on the west side of the island. Here you can visit the Kuala Teriang fishing village and another waterfall. The nearby Burau Island will be of interest to bird watchers as it is a nesting place for migratory birds.
Pantai Pasir Tengkorak
Pantai Pasir Tengkorak is otherwise known as Sandy Skulls Beach. The sandy beach stretches along the ocean until it is cut off by boulders at either side. Trees line the beach creating secluded spots perfect for picnics.
Pantai Pasir Hitan
Pantai Pasir Hitam's beach sand has a black and white coloration due to minerals and iron in the sand. Tourists may mistake the black coloration for pollution but it is actually a natural occurrence.
