Budget Travel Ideas in Kuala Kubu Baru
Edit ThisBudget Travel
Kuala Kubu Baru is accessible by road, train or bus. You can hire a car from Kuala Lampur and enjoy a toll-free picturesque drive into the town. If you want to save on those dollars and plan to take the bus or train, it’s helpful to know that you’ll need to switch to a bus or train at Rawang.
Getting Around
The best way to move around the small town of Kuala Kubu Baru is by a rented bicycle that can be hired at any guesthouse. If you feel fit enough to ride long distance, you can also check out the beautiful Aborigine villages and waterfalls. Otherwise, you can get around the entire town by foot.
Where to Stay
The FlyingRhino guest house run by a European couple offers visitors reasonably priced rooms (starting at $30). The best part is that even though this guesthouse is not priced too high, it still offers clean and nicely decorated rooms with a good view of the natural surroundings.
Budget-friendly Things to Do
Sample the local food of Kuala Kubu Bharu at the interesting night markets held on the 9th and 29th of every month. Visit the only temple, called Guan Yin Gu See, that survived the big floods of 1883. Take in nature’s beauty at the Rhino Falls which requires an hour-long walk, but it well worth the effort because you’ll get to see brightly colored birds and breathtaking views. Relax and take in the sleepy town from a comfortable seat in one of the many coffee houses. Don’t forget to try out some water sports after haggling for a good enough price!
Where to Eat
If you wake up early enough you can indulge in the real delicacies of Kuala Kubu Baru at the town’s one and only morning market from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. For lunch or dinner, Sun Sun Seng Nam will be your best bet as it offers freshly made aromatic Hainanese food for an average price. Delight yourself with some fresh bakery snacks, particularly the Kaya puff, at Yun’s bakery.
