Toraja Highland Travel Guide

Tana Toraja or shorted as Tator or Toraja Highland is one of the highlight spots in Sulawesi. Also known as Land of the Death, since the Torajans always celebrating the burial ceremony more than a ceremony for giving birth or birthday.  And the ceremony itself so called Rambu Solo.  And the most unique thing, they buried the death bodies in the rocks or hanging the coffins that might be quite similar with Sagada in north Luzon, the Philippines.

From Makassar, the provincional city of South Sulawesi, it takes 8 - 10 hours to reach Tana Toraja via scenic route Pare pare and Gunung Nona at Enrekang.

The main town of Tana Toraja are Makale and Rantepao. For visit hanging coffins, you should proceed to Rantepao and visit the most famous hanging cemetery Kete' Kesu. Also old tongkonan  [the traditional Torajan house] at Pallawa and nice hills called Batutumonga.
