Gunungsitoli or Gunung Sitoli (both are used) is the capital of Nias (island) The small town has greatly suffered from the March 2005 earthquake but reconstruction activities are underway.
The town may not be of much tourist interest but it serves as the gateway to the south and other surfing sites on the island.
