Gili Air Island - located a short boat ride off the north of Lombok. From Mataram it is a 40 minute taxi ride to catch the boat. One of four islands in the group, Gili Air is very small, and a beautiful and peaceful place to relax. The island only had electricity provided in recent years, and is made up of small beachside hotels and bars. The only transport on the island is horse and cart, which for a small fee will collect you from the boat and take you to your hotel. You could walk the perimeter of the island in little more than a few hours. In fact, I was told that the island is being eroded and reclaimed by the sea at a rate of a foot or so each year. Great sunset views of Mount Agung, the highest volcano on Bali. See the island while it's still there!
