Dieng Plateau

Literally, the name Dieng taken from Sanskrit language Di-Hyang means 'Abode of the Gods', the residence of the Gods in Hinduism. There are several complex of temples scattered along the Dieng Plateau for Hindu worshippers. These candi [temples] given name based on the heroes of Pandawa family in Javanese mythology, such as Bima, Arjuna and Gatutkaca. Beside the temples,  Dieng Plateau has  several sulphur craters [local address it as 'kawah'] and a lake named Telaga Warna. 

Long time ago, the name of Dieng Plateau spread nationalwide since one of the kawah [crater] produced poisonous gases that kills 149 people. Known as 'the tragedy of Kawah Sinila'.  Dieng plateau is located in the altitude 2.093 meters above sea level and surrounded by 10 mountains. In past time, actually Dieng plateau was former crater os Sumeru volcano and because great eruption so slice became 10 mountain like: Mt. Perahu, Bismo. pangamun-amun dll. There are 3 reason why visitor visit  Dieng plateau are: [a] For business, because Dieng Plateau produce potatoes, cabbage, carrot etc. [b] Tourist destination, Dieng plateau is the second tourist destination in Central java after Borobudur temple. [c] Meditation, in 1974 former Indonesia president mr. Soeharto and former Australian prime minister George William have been visit semar cave at Dieng plateau area and some people still visit the cafe for meditation. Dieng plateau is really combination between heaven [because iis located in highland] and hell [because found Sikidang crater].
