In spite of it being the capital city of the Islamic-dominated Indonesia, visitors will find a whole lot of Jakarta nightlife here. After dark, you’ll find no shortage of entertainment and nightlife in the city. From hotel nightclubs to bars and pubs with live music, visitors to Jakarta will find it all. Here are some well known spots to hit after the sun sets.
Plaza Indonesia’s EX Annex
Comprised of trendy nightclubs, bars and pubs, this area (next to Grand Hyatt) is a good place to head to for a night out. Here, party goers will be spoiled for choices with places such as the famous Hard Rock Café, known for its love entertainment and wide variety of food and drinks. Try out the Emporium which offers karaoke, perfect for a fun night out with a group of friends.
Bats at the Shangri La Hotel is known for its live bands on the weekends. This bar, done up in a classy manner, has good food and wine, and by the end of the night most guests are sure to join in the merriment and dancing.
This pub in Jalan Kemang Raya is a very well known hang out for locals as well as the expatriate crowd. The pub features a lively front bar that has a dart board corner as well as a 9-foot billiard table. One can also find a lot of after-work crowd here since the pub offers free Wi-Fi Internet connection and a wide range of daily newspapers. If indoors is not your thing, then head outside to Eastern Promise’s beer garden. Interestingly, on Friday and Saturday, you’ll find excellent live jazz and rock bands performing here.
Located in the lively beach area of Jalan Kemang Raya, Salsa Club is the best place for those who love Latino tunes or for those who just want to learn or practice their Salsa moves. This place can get really packed on weekends, so head there early to ensure that you get your salsa dance grooves in place with the help of the specially appointed Cuban dance instructors.
Vertigo Nightclub, situated on the 17th floor of Plaza Semanggi, boasts of an excellent sound system, excellent resident DJs and plush interiors. It’s no wonder then that it gets packed to full capacity of around 2000 party-goers on weekends. Wednesday night is Ladies night, while men pay around $5 to get in. On Friday and Saturday, the entrance fee is usually $9, inclusive of a complimentary drink.

BuGils cafe is located centrally in the Taman Ria Senayan Complex, close to TJI Friday's and Bebek Bali. This Dutch style "brown cafe" mostly caters for expatriates.
