History in Borobudur
Edit ThisBorobudur, The Biggest Buddha Temple in the 9th Century Based on Kayumwungan inscription, an Indonesian named Hudaya Kandahjaya revealed that Borobudur as a place of worship was completed at 26 May 824, almost one hundred years since the beginning of the built. Name of Borobudur. according some people it’s means a mountain-terraces (budhara), while others say that Borobudur means monastery, located in the high place. Borobudur has stairs-shape form that consist of 10 stairs. 42 meters height before the renovation and 34.5 meters after the renovation because the bottom level is used as a backstop. Six levels of the bottom are the square-shaped and three levels on top are circle and the highest level is a Buddhist stupa facing to the west. Each level represents the stages of human life. According Mahayana Buddhism mahzab, people who want to reach the level through the Buddha must pass through every level of life. Base of Borobudur, called Kamadhatu, symbolizing man who still passionately attached. Four-level above called Rupadhatu symbolizing that human was able to free himself from lust, but is still bound to the form and shape. At these levels, Buddha statue laid open. Meanwhile, three levels above where the Buddhist placed in the perforated stupa called Arupadhatu, symbolizes the human that has been free from lust, appearance, and shape. The top which is called the Nirwana Arupa, where the Buddha reside. Each level has a beautiful reliefs that shows how skillfully the author. The relief can be read sequentially when you walk clockwise (the left from the temple entrance). There’s a legend story on Borobudur reliefs, the Ramayana. The relief also describes the conditions at that time. For example, relief of farmers' activity reflecting the progress of the agricultural system at that time and the ship is a relief representation of the progress of the voyage at that time Bergotta (Semarang). Overall relief of the Borobudur temple reflect of the Buddha teachings. Therefore, this temple can be education media for those who want to learn of Buddha teachings.
