The most budget travel way to arrive in Tanjung Pinang is by taking a ferry. It is possible to fly directly into the city's Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport, however there are only domestic flights here, increasing your overall airfare cost.

The least expensive way to get to Tanjung Pinang is to fly directly to Singapore and take a ferry across to Bintan. There are 5 to 7 ferries crossing daily and the cost is $32 for a 1-way ticket and $54 for a return.

Upon arrival in Singapore, be sure to stop by the ferry office and reconfirm your tickets for travel before the day of your scheduled departure. This is especially important when traveling to Tanjung Pinang on weekends or holidays when the ferry can be filled  to capacity. This cannot be done at the ferry terminal, but must be done instead at the ferry company's offices which are not located near the ferry.
