Bintan is a pastoral island across the Strait of Malacca from Singapore. It can be reached by a one hour ferry ride. The resort section of Bintan, in the north, includes a Banyan Tree resort and a Club Med. The Banyan Tree is fabulous...relaxed but luxurious.
Bintan is VERY safe. The resort area has excellent security, even though it does not seem necessary.
