Top 5 Must Do's in Batam
Edit ThisYou will be amazed to know that the beautiful island of Batam is the most affordable tourist destination in Southeast Asia. This small island was once famous for its illegal casinos which are closed down by the government currently. Now it ranks second in the list of most preferred tourist destination after Bali for its beautiful beaches. No matter how short a time you decide to spend in this beautiful island you cannot afford to miss these 5 must do’s in Batam to have an ever memorable trip here.
Batam Beaches
This is the ultimate destination in Batam for those who love outdoor activities. Most of the beaches are located in Nagoya and Waterfront city of the island. You can bask in the sunshine or enjoy the various water sports with your family and friends. Waterskiing, parasailing, windsurfing, canoeing, speed boating just about any water sports activity you can completely enjoy here. You can also enjoy the best seafood lunch or dinner here.
Vihara Buddhi Bakti Temple
This is a must see place in Batam. Located in Nagoya this temple showcases typical Chinese architecture. Located just behind the temple is the sacred garden with its beautiful landscaping, scriptures and Buddha statues.
Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Buddhist Temple
This is one of the largest Buddhist temples of Southeast Asia. Also famous as the Laughing Buddha Temple, this sacred place attracts lots of Buddhist devotees from all over the world everyday.
Barelang Bridges
This amazing engineering of six bridges connects six islands of Batam. Each bridge is stretched on a length of about two kilometers and it will take you about twenty minutes to travel from first bridge to the last bridge. Amazing part is you will feel as though you are traveling on one single island while actually you are covering six different islands. You will come across some magnificent views of the island here which you can capture in your camera.
Old Camp Vietnam Village
This is the ultimate destination if you are interested in history tourism. This is the site of the refugee camp of the Vietnamese Boat People Village between 1976 and 1996. The most visited place here is the Quan An Tu Monastery which was built in 1984.
Batam Rezident
Edit ThisWhat utter trash .... there are NO beaches in or near Nagoya and the tiny strip of mud at Waterfront City is filthy and knee deep in trash as the locals dump their garbage (including human waste) anywhere that suits them.
The beaches are at Nongsa and only the private ones are any use and far short of "spectacular" the public ones are filthy.
Hope this helps
