Museums in Batam
Edit ThisWelcome to Batam
Because of its proximity to Singapore, Batam is an inexpensive island to visit for local and foreign visitors from Singapore. The island plays willing host to hundreds of Singaporeans who hop over for a day or weekend visit. Many wealthy Indonesians and Singaporeans own or lease houses on Batam. One of the many attractions of Batam are the fresh seafood restaurants.
Sekupang
The main town and, along with Batu Ampar, the primary entry point for Pulau Batam is Sekupang. The Batam Tourist Promotion Board located on Jl. R.E. Martadinata (phone: (0778) 322-053 or 322-599) is your best source of information for museums around Batam. Here you will be able to find the schedule of future events, as well as some good recommendations on what to do during your stay in Batam. One important thing to consider in Batam is that most museums are rather small enterprises from local entrepreneurs than government sponsored institutions.
Kabil
Kabil is a town about 30 kilometers southeast from Sekupang and is very well known for its port activity. Nearby Kabil is a small fishing village, Telaga Punggur, with several good seafood restaurants from where you can watch a parade of outlandish watercraft (Kabil has a 5,000 meter long pier). Telaga Punggur has several houses that double as museums where the local Batam customs and traditions are maintained. Don't feel afraid to bargain with the locals for discounted prices on activities, especially during off season times.
