Being the cultural centre of Bali, Ubud offers plenty of opportunities to watch traditional Balinese dance performances. Especially the dance performances in the Royal Palace are a feast for the eyes. Besides that, there are great shadow puppets performances and four well-known Balinese museums are located in Ubud. The art collections are definitely worth a visit.

When you want to have some more fresh air, rent a bike and explore the surroundings. There are a lot of little craft villages nearby, beautifully situated between the rice-fields. Day-trips can be made to the Monkey Forest and temples, such as the Goa Gajah and Penelokan. The latter is a must, not in the least because you can have some spectacular views of the Batur Volcano.

Some people say this kokokan [balinese] or blekok [javanese] also known as heron. but by looking the bird itself and some sources from the books, this bird catagorized as egret.

the best time to see them flying and back to the nests at the trees is about 5 - 6 pm at kokokan village, nearby the sawah [rice fields] and main road.  there are several view points develops by locals in the centre of sawah and they provided a book to be read [not to be sold anyway :)]. you can also enjoy hot coffee or tea here while awaiting kokokan with more..
