The nearest beach to Dili is 'Pasir Putih' ("white sand" in Indonesian), about 3 km east of Dili. Though a little remote, the beach is well guarded by local authorities.

Some snorkelling is possible at Pasir Putih, however, snorkeling (and diving) is wonderful, opposite Dili, around the island of Atauro. An English/Australian diving firm, based in Dili, does regular trips to Atauro.
