Things to do in Phnom penhEdit This
Cambodia is not only Angkor Wat, there are also many things to do in Phnom Penh.
If you are interested in culture, you are invited to visit the Royal Palace and the National Museum with many beautiful statues from Angkorian times. Art galleries and art shops are located near the National Museum. There are also a number of old, renowned pagodas, such as Wat Langka, Wat Ounalom and others.
Take a tour in a Tuk-Tuk for some 5 USD taking you all around town, visiting all the interesting spots, including Wat Phnom, where kids can ride on an elefant, the river, the independence monument, and the old French Colonial quarter with many interesting colonial villas. There are also special architecture tours on offer by cyclo.
Sunset cruises on the Mekong river are very popular, with a number of boats offering drinks and dinner for very reasonable rates at that time or later.
If you are interested in learning more about rural life in Cambodia, a short trip via ferry over the Mekong will bring you to the Mekong Peninsula where families live in a rural setting and were women weave the scarves and other textiles which are sold at Phnom Penh Central and Russian Markets.
There are many hotels with fitness centers and large swimming pools, and also so many cafes, bars and restaurants that it would take a year to visit them all. Live music is regularly played at the Memphis club as well as the Art Cafe. Phnom Penh also has a number of very interesting art galleries spread out over the city.
A number of organisations are presenting movies on a regular basis, such as the French Cultural Institute and the Meta House in Phnom Penh.
