Nightlife and Entertainment in Bandar Seri Begawan
Edit This
Bandar Seri Begawan does not have nightlife in the strict European sense. In accordance with Islamic laws alcohol is banned, so there are no bars. However, there are cafes where they serve coffee, especially espresso. The young congregate here for some fun and games. You too can join them, but remember to be dressed modestly. There are not many women to be seen on the streets of Brunei after dark.

They serve real espresso here, though it is priced on the higher side. The staff is neatly dressed and friendly. It is open until late into the night and is a good place to entertain friends over a cup of coffee.
Jerudong Park
If you have come with your family, visit this amusement park in the evening and stay on into the night. During weekdays, your family will probably be the only one here. It is neatly kept and well maintained. There are rides enough to satisfy even the ones with the most voracious appetite for them.
Performing Arts
Dance, in Brunei, has developed with influences from the traditional and folk dance forms. The traditional dance forms of Brunei include Jipin Lela Sembah, Alus Jua Dindang, Joget Baju Putih, Samalindang, Jong Sarat and Tudung Dulang. The folk dance forms of Brunei are Aduk-Aduk, Adai-Adai, Anding Rimba, Alai Sekap, Basuk Pakoi and Tamarok. The contemporary dance styles of Brunei are Jipin Tar and Joget Seri Kenangan.
Music and songs also form an integral part of Brunei’s performing arts. The music of Brunei is divided into classical or traditional and folk music. Some of the traditional songs of Brunei are Samalindang, Alus Jua Dindang and so on. The folk music of Brunei constitutes songs of the various ethnic groups living in Brunei. The contemporary music forms of Brunei include a wide range of patriotic songs.
As the performing arts are well patronized both by the government and NGOs, there are always performances that you can attend as a tourist. Given the lack of bars and night clubs, attending these might be the only form of entertainment for an evening out in Brunei. On the plus side, these performances are usually good and entertaining. If you love to take in the art of a country that you are visiting, these great performances are for you.
