Kalutara Travel Guide

Situated approximately 42km south of Colombo, this town is well known for quality bamboo basket and mats and the finest tasting mangosteens. Kalutara's golden beach is fringed by magnificent palms and is excellent for swimming. Markets, small shops and busy roads make up this small, yet busy town, and visitors will find the Gangatilaka Vihara there, one of the few Buddhist monuments that permits entry and a true highlight worth visiting.
