Arugam Bay Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeArugam bay is one of the world's top ten surfing spots. It is situated 320 km drive from Colombo in the dry zone of Sri Lanka's south-east coast. Arugam bay consists of three small villages with approximately 3.500 people. November to January is coolest and April to August, when the surf is best, could reach above 36 C in the shade. The three international renowned surf points close to Arugam Bay are Arugam Point, Pottuvil Point and Crocodile Rock. In the summer of 2004 the ISA (International Surfing Association) staged Arugam Bay's first international surfing competition. The nearest town is Pottuvil, a bustling frontier town with about 35 000 people. The original Hotel Association of Arugam Bay AbHa (www.arugam.info) maintains an up-to-date information site with hundreds of links to all establishments in town. Also an excellent taxi sharing initiative is offered to reduce costs of internal transfers to and from the International airport at Colombo.
