Its the oldest Mohalla of Azakhel Payan.Its name after Zarif Khan,the name of the fore-father of the inhabitants of this Mohalla.Its also called "Pukhtana" Zarif Khan had two younger brothers (i.e) Mutazam Khan & Arsala Khan.They were actually the Afghan traders, settled centuries ago in the Barren land of Azakhel Payan.They traded in the animal skin & tea by the help of their donkeys. Zarifkhel is found in the center of Azakhel Payan.It has Mohalla:Marofkhel & then Awan to its North,Charso Bazar & then Mohalla:Loharan & Qasaban to its East,Mohalla:Abakhel & Tarkanan to its South-East,Mohalla:Motazamkhel to its South,Mohalla:Mochyan to its South West, Mohalla:Pas to its west. The literacy rate in this Mohalla is the highest in the village. It has A Jamia Masjid named as Masjid-e-Minar, due to the presence of Minarets.Its the oldest in the largest Masjid of the village & is also enjoying the central position in the village society. It has an Imam named as Molana Qabil Jan, who is considered to be one of most intelligent,well versed,respectable personality in the whole district Nowshera.He has thousands of students all over district Nowshera.He is here since 1992. The Mohalla:Zarifkhel has also given some of the prominent personalities to the Village named as, Zain Ullah(Army Officer),Kifayat Khan (sui Southern Gas Company),Qawi Ullah Khan(a political figure),Gohar Zaman (A leading businessman in Karachi), Zafar Khan (Police D.I.G),Johar Zaman (Highway Officer),Raza Ullah Khan,a few bank officers..etc & the new generation is still to come.
