Budget Travel Ideas in Pakistan
Edit ThisAlready being a cheap country to
travel in - according to Western budgets anyway - Pakistan makes for a
great destination for those spendthrift travelers out there. First of
all, you can fly there pretty cheaply from within Asia with airlines
such as Air Blue and Air Arabia and from outside the continent with
airlines like Emirates and Etihad. Tourist buses and trains within the
country are also highly efficient and extraordinarily cheap. You get
the best deals on taxis by negotiating ahead of the actual ride.
Accommodations
Like many other parts of Asia, you
can get First World accommodations in Pakistan for Third World prices.
For only $20 to $25 you can get an air-conditioned ensuite room with such
amenities as cable TV and WiFi. If you want to spend even less than
this you can get decent-quality fan rooms that are clean and perfectly
secure.
Great Attractions for Next to Nothing
Once you
are in Pakistan you can really stretch your currency because most of
the really interesting attractions are free or incredibly cheap.
National monuments such as Lahore Mosque are a must and will set you
back only a little. Also in Lahore you can go to the Lahore Zoo for less
than $11, a really fun day out for hardly anything at all. Pakistan is
full of great markets such as Zainab Market in Karachi. There is no law
to say that you must purchase anything in the market so you can simply
enjoy yourself looking at the huge range of spices, indigenous
craftwork, local clothing and precious stones. Pakistan is also one of
the most naturally picturesque nations in the world so for the basic
price of a driver or train fare you can venture into the beautiful
countryside and enjoy the scenery.
The Beach is Always Free
In cities like Karachi you can pass the time on some splendid public beaches and, of course, this is about the most "budget" thing you can do because it's totally free. So you can kick back with a nice picnic, go swimming and get a nice sun tan without shelling out a penny. Many travelers' favorite budget beach is Hawke's Bay Beach, not far from Karachi. It is a gorgeous stretch of white sand featuring immense natural beauty. Activities available include fishing, picnicking, swimming and camel and horse riding. If you are really lucky you can spot green marine turtles laying their eggs, which is an experience that money truly can't buy!
