Mirpur has a very important place in Indian history that must be known to every Mirpuri. It is not possible to have a detailed treatise on it but it may be worth recalling the importance of Mirpur at the time of Alaxander.

It is perhaps not well known that it was at Kari-ka-Maidan (Kari Field), near Alibegh in Mirpur district, where Alexander fought his last battle with the local King Porus. King Porus gave tough fight to Alexander but lost due to superior tactics of the Greeks.

At that time Ambi ruled the Kingdom around Taxila (present day Jehlum) and more..
