Bellevue Hotel Darjeeling

Located on the edge of Chowrasta square, this budget-midrange hotel cost 800 INR for a single tarriff and 1000-2000 INR for two.  This is somewhat exorbinant by Indian standards but each room comes equipped with a wood burning stove that can be fired nightly for an additional 100R.  Rooms are clean (spotless by Indian standards), beds are comfortable with ample blankets and showered hot water abounds.  Some rooms have a view on a garden behind the hotel which provides a quiet haven from the constantly barking stray dogs of Darjeeling.  Rooms include a table and chairs with a reading chair, perfect from chilling out and escaping the madness of India.

The owner is a very friendly man who knew the Dalai Lama; many pictures of his past adorn the walls of the reception and eating area.  If you are burnt out staying with squat toilets, hot water in a bucket and icy cold rooms (even when Siliguri is 35-40C, Darjeeling is 15-20C), the Hotel Bellevue is an affordable luxury that makes you feel like you're getting your money's worth.

Recently, the attached InternetCafé has been equipped with WLAN covering the whole hotel, a good opportunity to get/send your mails or to read news from the outside world. Connection is not at lightning speed ... but free!
