Forest Reserve
The Kalikad Tiger Reserve is home to tigers and elephants. Wild dogs, Nilgiri languor, panther, lion-tailed monkey, leopard, bonnet macaque, Sambar, snakes, chital, sloth bear and tuskers can also be spotted. The Kunthakulam Bird Sanctuary is located in Nanguneri Taluk. It is 33 km away from Tirunelveli. Those who love bird watching must visit this reserve, as more than 10,000 migratory birds come here from different countries like Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Another renowned bird sanctuary is located in Ariyakulam.
Museum
The Tirunelveli State Museum exhibits artifacts, coins, war equipment, bronze items, potteries made by celebrated artisans and statues made up of stones and wood. The Regional Science Centre is also worth a visit. If you have children accompanying you, show them the uniquely designed telescope. In the adjoining garden, you can find guinea pigs and rabbits roaming about playfully.
Waterfall
The Coutrallam Falls must be visited, as the water has curative properties. Coutrallam has emerged as a health resort. Tourists enjoy swimming and boat rides here. Temples
The Sankara Narayanan Temple in Sankarankovil is worth visiting. Tourists from around the world flock to this temple to watch Car festival in June and July. Pilgrims offer prayers to Lord Muruga at Thirumalai during their visit to Tirunelveli. This temple is nestled on a hillock at Panpozhil.
