There are beautiful short treks in and around Ooty. Mukurti trek is one of the best trek where one gets beautiful view of the Mukurti lake and if you are lucky enough you can sight herds of Nilgiri thar which is predominantly found in this region. Best time to trek is in the month of October when the weather is dry. Drive down from Ooty to a place called fishing hut for an overnight stay with the permission of forest official, and the nextday morning trek to the peak and come back the same day to Ooty.
