Nagapattinam Travel Guide

An ancient coastal region in South India and central part of Tamilnadu. This district was bifurcated from integrated Thanjavur. The development of Nagapattinam town itself is very slow as compared to other towns bacause of its vulnerable location.

Nagapattinam district has important tourist locations.

Nagore : A pilgrim center 5 Km north of Nagapattinam with a population around 30,000. Famous for Annual Kandoori festival.  Still part of Nagapttinam Municipality from early British period.

Velankanni: Catholic Pilgrimage. Aroung 12 KM south of Nagai with a poulation of around 7,000.

Sikkal: Famous for Hindu Temple.

Vedaranyam and Kodikkarai birds Sanctuary are around 20KM from nagapattinam.

Other attaractions are Poompuhar, Tranqubar (Old danish Colony) and Karaikal.
