Getting There

The nearest Airport to Shillong is the Umroi Airport near Barapani about 25 kms from Shillong, which is connected with ATR flights Alliance Air (Subsidiary of Indian Airlines) with Kolkata only. There are however, helicoptar flights of Pawan Hans connecting Shilong with Guwahati and other towns of Meghalaya like Tura. But most covenient airport is Guwahati, which is about 125 Kms away from Shillong. Guwahati is connected by flights of Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Sahara Airlines, Alliance Air & Deccan Airways regularly directly from Delhi & Guwahati and offering connecting flights to Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and all imporatnt citites of India. There is also a bi-weekly flight between Guwahati and Bangkok.

Nearest Rail station to Shillong is Guwahati, which is connected with direct broad gauge trains like Rajdhani Express (from Delhi) and other direct trains from Delhi, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Bangalore, Hyderanad, Chennai, Trivandrum, Kochi, Jaipur/Jodhpur, Jammu Tawi, Mumbai etc.

From Guwahati, you can reach Shillong by shared Taxis like Tata Sumo, Tata Indica & others (can also be reserved fully), Delux & ordinary tourist Buses (both Private & Govt.), which are vailable from terminus adjacent to Guwahati Rail station.These vehicles operate through out the day and very large number in each category are vailable. The road distance from Guwahati to Shillong is about 100 kms and takes about 2.5 hours by taxis and about 3 hours by buses.
