At the time of World War II, Moirang was the headquarters of Azad Hind Fouz. This is also the place where Netaji hoisted the flag of the I.N.A for the first time on Indian soil. Moirang offers an I.N.A. memorial with the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
As far as history goes, the traditional 'Moirang Lai Haraoba' is celebrated in the month of May every year. During the festival, thousands of people from around the state came to seek the blessing of 'Ebudhou Thangjing'. Many amaiba & amaibi and local folks offer gifts and puja and also dance and sing together in honour of Ebudhou. Lia Haraoba continues for almost one month. On every Sunday during the haraoba, a mega programme regarding dancing and singing is offered to Ebudhou.
'Mukna Lamjel' takes place on the second day from concluding day. A half marathon is followed by a traditional Mukna on this day. Everyone who took part in that event is awarded by 'famnaiba & famnaibi'.
Ebudhou Thangjing is the God of Moirang. He protects Moirang from evil doers.
Besides Lai Haraoba, there are so many ritual ceremony in Moirang. Manipuri history and Moirang go hand to hand.
