Top 5 Must Do's in Pune

center for education and research as well as being a significant
military base. The variety of things to do means that there is
something to keep everyone busy while visiting Pune.
Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum
This interesting museum can be found on Bajirao Road. The building is an example of Rajasthani architecture. Dr Dinkar G. Kelkar established the museum and helped make it into a note worthy place to visit. From 1920 until 1960 Dr Dinkar collected items for the museum until the number of items exceeded 15,000. The museum was given to the Department of Archeology in 1962. In the 36 sections of the museum there are 2500 items on display, including musical instruments and paintings. Among the exhibitions in the museum are Indian art, pottery and carved temple doors that are on display. There are also statues of religiously significant figures. At Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum visitors can learn more about the history and culture of the surrounding area.
Shaniwar Wada
Shaniwar Wada is a palace that was constructed by the Peshwas in 1736. It is located on Laxmi Road next to Deccan Gymkhana. Unfortunately this magnificent palace was damaged by a fire in 1827. This is still however an important historical site and visitors can see the old fortified wall, brass gates and lotus pool. Every evening there is a light and sound performance which illustrates the history of the Maratha empire.
Aga Khan Palace
This magnificent palace boasts Italian arches and beautiful gardens. The palace has historical significance as during 1942 Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi were kept here. The palace was owned by Aga Khan but he donated it in memory of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi. Inside the palace there are photographs on display and you can learn more about Mahatma Ghandi and the speeches that he made.
Bhimshankar Wildlife Sanctuary
Bhimshankar Wildlife Sanctuary was founded in 1974. It stretches over 3 regions namely Pune, Raigad and Thane. The area has semi-evergreen forests and tropical forests.
Bund Garden
Bund garden otherwise known as Mahatma Gandhi Udyan is situated near the Pune railway station. It was created by Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy. The garden has good views over the surrounding region. Visitors to the park can enjoy boating on the river. Bird watching enthusiasts will enjoy the variety of birds in the area, including migratory birds. Jogging tracks are a good way to get some exercise and are also popular among locals.
