Pune Youth Hostel

On the outskirts of town, this hostel is located on a hill overlooking the city and lake. They offer clean rooms with basic amenities and good home cooked food for a small fee, and they are really close to several attractions. If you take a taxi from the airport, insist that they go up the driveway to drop you off or you will end up having to carry your suitcases up a steep path. The hostel offers a swimming pool and full access to the grounds. Advance booking is strongly suggested.

Hotels

Pune offers several budget hotels. The Hotel Cozy Inn is a smaller hotel located in the business district. There is a restaurant and a gym and several amenities are offered. The Ginger Pune Hotel and the Phoenix Hotel are also very nice budget hotels. Prices start around $70 to $75 and include several amenities. Both have excellent reviews for the quality and low prices of their food. The Phoenix offers a rooftop terrace with a pool, providing a beautiful view of the surrounding area.

Shopping

There are several markets in Pune. In most of these markets, bargaining is encouraged as prices are often inflated to leave room for negotiations. Hongkong Lane offers footwear, bags, clothing and accessories. Fashion Street is an area where you can buy clothing, shoes and leather items at great prices. The best market is located at Mahatma Gandhi Road (M.G.Road). Here you can find anything you may need, from furniture and electronics to pots and pans as well as clothing and shoes.

Forts

There are several forts around Pune. Singhagad is only 25 km from Pune and is perfect for a day outing with a picnic. It is located on a hill and is accessible by car. Here you can go up in the tower of Doordarshan for a breathtaking view of the area. You can also sample local foods and there are several paths around the fort. You can also visit Chakan, about 35 km from town. Unlike the other forts in the area that are built on hills, this fort is not built on a hill and is in a moderately dilapidated state. It features the Shri Chakreshwar ancient temple with stone carvings that are worth a look.
