7 Day Itinerary in Pune
Edit ThisA week in Pune is insufficient to cover all the tourist attractions around the city. The following 7-day Pune itinerary will help you to visit as many places as possible.
Day 1- Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum and Shaniwar Wada
The Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is situated close to Bajirao Road in the heart of Pune City. It holds a collection of Indian handicrafts brought from across different states of the country. Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum also has a recreation of the famous ‘Mastani Mahal’ which is one of the masterpieces in this museum. The museum contains around 36 different sections which incorporates a carved palace. Do not forget to visit the pottery sections which are over 2,000 years old. A trip to Pune is incomplete without a visit to Shaniwar Wada, which is also located in the main city near the Deccan Gymkhana.
Shaniwar Wada is a historic fort and a symbol of Pune culture. The fort was built by the Peshwas and is endowed with elegant brass studded gates along with lotus pools. Visit the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum in the morning and the Shaniwar Wada in the evening to catch the ‘Light and Sound’ show. You can get a glimpse of the Maratha history through the laser show.
Day 2 – Tribal Museum and the Mahatma Phule Museum
Allot the second day to the popular Pune museums. The Tribal Museum is located off Koregaon Road near Pune Station (East). This museum is well-known for the number of historic artifacts. The artifacts have been specially brought from the Sahyadri and Gondhwa regions in Maharashtra. End your day with a visit to the Mahatma Phule Museum. You can get a chance to view several agricultural and handicraft articles in this museum. It was established in 1890 and is located on Ghole Road in Shivaji Nagar.
Day 3- Parvati Hill Temples
You will need an entire day for this destination. The Parvati Hill temples is situated atop a hillock and you can get a vertical glimpse of the entire Pune City. You will have to climb a steep flight of 108 steps that lead to the Parvati temple. The Parvati museum located here contains portraits of Peshwas along with ancient manuscripts and coins.
Day 4- Pune University and Fergusson College
Pune is also famous for the Poona University. This stately mansion designed in Italian-Gothic style is the most sought after university in India. It is also one of the oldest universities in the country. Fergusson College is another ancient monument built in the year 1885. The college has a beautiful tree-lined campus surrounded with beautiful hills in the background.
Day 5 - Bhimshankar Wildlife Sanctuary
Allot 1 day for visiting this wildlife sanctuary. It was declared as an official wildlife sanctuary in 1974. Situated at an angle of 2100 feet to 3800 feet, the wildlife sanctuary is spread across 3 districts. You can also get a glimpse of the western tropical hill forests in this reserve.
Day 6 - Pataleshwar Caves
Pataleshwar caves are situated in Pune city and have an ancient eighth century rock cut temple. This magnificent temple has been carved out of a single huge boulder. The presence of gigantic pillars along with a Shiva shrine and Nandi temple has added to the popularity of Pataleshwar caves.
Day 7 – Bund Garden
Bund Garden is also known as Mahatma Gandhi Udyan and was built by Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy. It is located on the bank of the Mula-Mutha, just 2 km away from the Pune railway station. You can also enjoy a boat ride or a horseback ride in the evening. Do not forget to taste the mouth-watering local ‘Chat-cuisine’ available at Bund Garden.
