Museums in LonavalaEdit This
Visiting Lonavala museums and historical sites is commonly suggested to tourists for understanding the history of Maharashtra. Besides the usually-visited museums, visitors should also visit the slightly eccentric Lonavala museums. One such museum is the Celebrity Wax Museum, which is the first of its kind in India.
What the Celebrity Wax Museum Offers
Also called the Wax Museum, this is among the most contemporary and perhaps the most unique of Lonavala Museums. Located in Varsoli, in Lonavala near the Toll Gate that oversees Pune, this is also India’s first wax museum. The museum opened in 2005. It is largely perceived as a rip-off of the Madam Tussaud Museum in London, and yes, the museum doesn’t deny the unmistakable similarities.
The museum’s collection is now growing with every passing week, with waxed impressions of Indian and international celebrities being regularly added. The most popular wax statues are those of Rajiv Gandhi, Michael Jackson and Adolf Hitler. The current collection seems to be more inclined towards stars from the Indian film industry (Bollywood).
Reaching Celebrity Wax Museum
The Wax Museum is located just about 2 km from the main railway junction of Lonavala. Visitors can simply walk to the museum or get aboard any of the rickshaws for a slightly discomforting but very cheap ride.
The museum usually remains open on all days between 8.30 a.m. and 9.30 p.m., except on national holidays.
The tickets are nominally priced across various age-groups, though there are no discounts for families or bigger groups.
