Konkan is a beautiful region of Maharashtra with an abundance of things to do. Whether you are looking for relaxation or adventure, Konkan has something for everyone.

Beaches

The vast coastline boasts an abundance of white sandy beaches stretching for miles. Trees offer shade and refuge from the sun. Some of the beach areas are deserted and are perfect to explore. Alibag is a beach that is a popular holiday destination for people from Mumbai. Kashid is the next beach which has some accommodation options such as guesthouses. Murd Janjira is another beach that is frequented by tourists and is therefore crowded. By catching a ferry from Murd Beach you can get away from the crowds and visit deserted beaches.

Konkan Food

Sampling the famous Konkan cuisine is a must when visiting this region. Konkan is renound for its seafood dishes.

Ferry Rides

Ferry rides are an enjoyable way to explore beaches. As well as being a method of transport, catching a ferry can be a fun activity. Ferry rides are not available during monsoon season.

Temples

Temples are in abundance and serve as a place to pray for pilgrims. The beauty of the beach can be enjoyed while taking part in religious activities. Somaja Devis is a famous temple located in this area. Ganpati Temple is worth a visit as it is home to the Idol of Ganpati which is made of gold.

Forts
Kolaba Fort is worth a mention and it is an important historical site. Janjira Fort is another fort which is located near Murd Janjira Beach. It has been standing for 350 years and has never been conquered. Sindhudurg, Vijaydurg, Terekhol, Nivti and Ramgarh are among some of the many other forts in this area.

Festivals

Festivals offer a unique opportunity to be part of the local culture and mingle with locals. Attending a festival will give you a better understanding of the region. Diwali, Dassera and Makar Sankranti are all festivals celebrated in Konkan.

Waterfalls

Konkan is known for its waterfalls that are only formed during the monsoon season. Napne is the only waterfall that is present all year. Seeing the water cascading down the mountains is a spectacular site.

Dolphin Viewing

Take a dolphin viewing tour and enjoy being out in the ocean while trying to spot dolphins in their natural habitat.

Hiking Trails

Explore the jungle areas on one of the many hiking trails. There are also caves and hot springs in some areas.
