Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeAshta Nagar Palika Municipalty is the second(ESTD 1853) to Mumbai in Maharashtra. To reach it the nearest International Airport is Mumbai's. From there one has to take bus to Sangli. Ashta is 19 Kms away from Sangli or Islampur. It has one Engineering institute.
Ashta is known for its Ashta i.e eight lingas of Lord Mahadev, which were incarnated at Ashta by Lord Rama duing his stay at Dandakranya.
Ashta is most famous for festival of "Bhavai". Bhavai marks victory of good over evil. Bhavai is celebrated by all sections of society irrespective of religion or cast. They all immitate how Devi Chamundeshwari killed rakshasa by playing their own inherited role with strictly observing fast those days. Then at last celebrate victory together.
Ashta is known for two more things. Ashta has largest farming land(around 35K acres) for any city in Maharashtra or could be even India. Ashta is also well known for efficient running of credit societies. Ashta has almost 40 credit societies,4-5 scheduled banks,3-4 nationalised well known banks, little too many for a city boasting of population around 30 K. Ashta doesn't have any major industry despite being second oldest Municipality in Maharashtra. But Ashta is surrounded by almost 7-8 sugar factories and these many engg. colleges in the circle of 50 km.
Ashta is little conservative sleepy town which moves at its own place. Ashta weather is dry.
