Located 70km north of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam is the cashew capital of India. It is also one of the oldest ports on the Malabar coast, and a perfect gateway to backwaters of Kerala.

This old famous proverb tells the blessed heritage and popularity of Kollam. Because of the pronounciation problem britishers named Kollam as Quilon. So in the railway map you may not see the name Kollam but quilon. the name Kollam is very famous in Kerala even though the britishers called it as quilon.
