AROUND MANGALORE
1. Kambla the World famous Water Buffalo race – held only on a Sunday, starting from the 1st week of January to about the end of February.
2. Kori-katta – the cock fighting sport, held every weekend and during rural festivals.
3. The “Santhe” – the local village fairs.
4. The Temple fairs / Car festivals.
5. The Church ‘fest’ (the feast of the patron Saint of the particular Church). The feast of the Nativity–Sept.8th, the birth day of Mary the Mother of Our Lord Jesus–also the Harvest Festival.
6. Pilikula Nisargadhama – the lake side picnic spot about 10km. From Mangalore with an animal Safari, and a water park at Vomanjoor.
7. 1000 pillar Basidi (Jain Temple) at Moodubidri.
8. Chaturmukha Basidi (Jain Temple) and Gomate shwara (the granite Monolith of a Jain saint which is 42’ tall on top of a hill, with steps leading to it).
9. Basel Mission Farm and Nursery (run by Dr. Soans) and Alvas Ayurvedic Pharmacy and Ayurvedic plants farm at Moodubidri.
10. Manipal the Multi-disciplinary Campus township (near Udupi). Do not miss the Anatomy Museum and the Cultural Heritage village reconstructed by Vijayanath Shenoy. Also the Planetorium.
11. Udupi Krishna Temple & Square with the 8 Mutts.
12. St. Mary’s Isles – a 45 minute boat ride from the harbour of Malpe across the sea. World famous Basalt columnar rock structure on an un-inhabited Island. A beautiful picnic spot. There is a regular ferry service to the Island. (Except during 1st week June to end September)
13. Great for beach hopping from Uchila in the South to Malpe in the north, a series of nine totally different beaches. (Uchila, Ullal, Thandrabail, Thannirbavi, Panambur, Surathkal, Kapu and Malpe)
14. A big center of Banking, Culture, Education & Health Care (Allopathic, Ayurvedic, Homeopathic & Natureopathic)
15. Interdiocesean Seminary (St. Joseph’s Seminary) at Jeppu.
16. Kalangan – the Konkani Cultural Amphitheatre.
17. Bekal Fort on the Arabian Sea near Kasaragod.
18. Stone sclpture works at Karkala.
19. Nine hole golf course (Brown) at present at Pilikula (Vomanjoor).
20. Centre of Tulu Culture & Yakshagana (near MGM College – Udupi).
21. Ayurvedic College at Udyavara (4km. from Udupi) and Naturopathic College at Ujre (5km. from Dharmastala)
22. Bender Theertha (Warm mineral water spings) at Irde, near the Seerehole River, near
Puttur.
23. Trekking - ‘Aarohana’ a group of nature lovers do arrange trekking.
