MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Rooms)
Edit ThisMavalli Tiffin Rooms (or MTR for short) is one of the oldest Restaurants in Bangalore , the silicon valley of India . The word hotel often refers to a restaurant in India . So, don’t be confused, it is not a Hotel!
MTR is a pure and perfect South Indian restaurant started in the year 1924 by the grandfather of the current managing partner Hemamalini Maiya (34), active, confident, energetic young woman. MTR was awarded the best South Indian Tiffin restaurant by the Times of India, a leading newspaper. It also got the Rotary award a year back. Mavalli is one of the oldest towns in Bangalore situated near Lalbagh, a biggest park in the heart of the city.
MTR serves 15 different varieties of food in its famous lunch/dinner package. Apart from its lunch/dinner packages, the Tiffins like Masala Dosa, Sambars, Idlis, Bisibelebath, Kharabath, Chandrahara, Sandwiches, ghgfhfghgfhCoffee and lots more are THE items at MTR Restaurant.
There is a smaller MTR eat out near Jayanagar 7th Block. A good place for a quick grab & To-Go food.
Visitor Comment
I visited today (19.Jul.2009) with my family. When we went to our
table (after a wait of 40 mins, which was known and OK), the table was
still dirty. Yes, I could not believe as we were proud of MTR for its
cleaniness. I asked them to wipe the table once more. They pretended
not to hear but we had children amongst us. They wiped, after the 3rd
call. I am now wondering whether this is a grave sin that I did,
because, the person who takes the orders (Mr. Girish Bhat) took orders
from 6 tables around us but not ours! I had to call 2 times more to
take the order. We ordered 7 Masala Dosas. They served 6. OK.
perhaps that's what they could cook once. (in all other restaurants,
they serve the table order completely). But we were insulted again
when they served the same Masala dosa to other tables (who came later)
and not the remaining 1 masala dosa of our table ... This is really an
insult and we don't have to go all the way from Mahalakshmi Layout to
Lalbagh road to eat anymore.
Is MTR turning arrogant? It is really sad. It not any more our proud MTR.
