History in Agumbe

Agumbe history is of its own importance. It is a famous hill station which is located in the Shimoga district in the state of Karnataka, India. It receives very heavy rainfall which is next to Cherrapunji. The place is also famous for waterfalls, sunsets, and a research unit on the king cobra. It is also the place of the Agumbe rainforest research station which is the permanent station in India. Agumbe history says that since 2005 some Naxalite activities have been observed near Agumbe. Thus, Karnataka police station created check posts in all intersections. This helps all tourists to enjoy the natural beauty of Agumbe and its environment.



Sharada Temple

The temple is fully dedicated to the goddess of wisdom and learning. It has been growing up from the time of Adi Shankaracharya. It was made in 14th century by the old sandalwood which was later replaced with the stone and gold image. And the manufacturing was continued till 20th century. But now the current structure is totally based on traditional south Indian temple architecture.

Vidyashankara Temple

This temple was made around A.D. 1357 to 1358. It was built by the saint of Harihara and Bukka, named Vidyaranya. This temple has a number of sculptures from Jain, Hindu and Buddhist mythologies. It comprises the architectural features of Hoysala and Vijayanagara.

Malgudi Days

Malgudi Days is a very popular television serial which is totally based on the novel which was written by R. K. Narayna. Most of the episodes were pictured in Agumbe in 1985. A new set of episodes of Malgudi Days was filmed in 2004 in Agumbe.

King Cobra Sanctuary:

Agumbe is known for the research on the king cobra. It is the permanent research station in India and was established by Romulus Whitaker. Whitaker and his team members spotted the king cobra in early 1970s at 560 meters above the sea level in the Western Ghats. They found that the king cobra is the longest venomous snake in the wild. They studied more on king cobras and now Agumbe is known for the king cobra sanctuary.

Beauty Places 

Agumbe is famous for sunsets. Tourists come to Agumbe from November to January to capture some beautiful moments.
