The Jhelum River flows through the area and bridges connect parts of the city that are divided by the river.

Summer falls in the months of June until August and winter is December until February. In winter the area may experience snow. Srinagar has 675 mm of rain every year.
Wildlife
Hokersar Wetland is close to Srinagar and this area is host to an abundance of wildlife. Birds migrate to this area from Ciberia and Central Asia. September until October and spring are the best times to view the birds in this area. Some of the birds that you can see include Brahiminy ducks, Mallards and Northern Pintails. Dal Lake is another area rich in wildlife where you can see Kingfishers and Piriah Kites. Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary is a noteworthy attraction and here you can see Hangul deer and leopards.

Srinagar has a variety of important religious sites including Hazratbal Shrine, Shankaracharya Temple, Khanqa-e-Molla, Jama Masjid and Chatti Padshahi.
