Getting Around in Shimla
Edit ThisOne of the renowned hill stations in India is Shimla. Transportation here is mostly restricted to private vehicles, buses, taxis and auto- rickshaws due to the hilly terrain. Walking is always a better option for the nearby areas.
Auto-Rickshaw
The three-wheeler auto rickshaw service is more rare in Shimla due to its high altitude. It is restricted to few areas in the city. The charges are very economical and the journey comfortable. However, due to steep slopes, the service is not easily available.
Buses
Local bus services operate within the main city area as well as in the nearby area. These are mostly used by the locals. For the benefit of tourists, many tour operators arrange for luxury and semi-luxury buses at a very economical price. State transport buses also operate a service for tourists. These are more comfortable for the tourists.
Taxi
There is nothing better than to hire a taxi or a private car for sightseeing in Shimla. They are very economical and very comfortable to travel around in the city in. However, their accessibility is restricted to certain areas in the city like the Mall Road and market area.
The main center of attractions within the city can easily be reached
on foot too, which is much better than any of the transportation
mentioned above. One can enjoy the scenic views as well as feel the
ambiance of the place better on foot.
