Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and is a very charming hill resort. The name's derived from Shyamaladevi, a goddess in Indian mythology.  It was the favourite summer resort of the British when their troops set up camp here in 1819. And now becomes a nice place for retreat from the heat

At an altitude of 2,130 meters, the town is a beautiful place. With the Mall and Ridge being main attractions, there are also good walking options. You can, for example, start your walk from Scandal Point and Ridge, and a 2 Kms walk takes you to the Jakhoo hill which offers an excellent panoramic view of Shimla and the Hanuman Temple.  Another tourist attraction is the Toy Train, a narrow gauge rail that starts from Kalka and terminates at Shimla.

There are also many tourist attractions near Shimla such as Kufri, Mashobra, Naldehra and Tatta Pani.

You can travel to Shimla by air, train as well as road.

Shimla is also a good starting point for treks.
