Sarahan Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeTravelling east from Shimla along the old Tibetan trade route(know less romantically as road NH22) you can make a small detour to the pituresque town of Sarahan. At close to 2000m you get stunning views of the Sutlej river valley & the Himalaya from above the town. The small town is set amongst apple orchards that dot the hill sides & there are any number of walks that can be made through Alpine meadows to spectacular view points. The peak on Srikhand Mahadev(5227m) can also be seen from the town.
The grand Bhimakali Temple in the centre of Sarahan seems to be a mixture of Hindu & Bhuddist building styles & its said that Human sacrifices were once performed there. The temple has rooms that can be rented with good hot running water & local restaurants tend to have a fairly good menu.
Buses run from Shimla daily although you need to change in Rampur, a large & grubby town, about midway. The road from Rampur to Sarahan is not for the nervous as the journey leads you thorugh a precipetous gorge who's steep cliffs drop sheer from the edge of the road.
Sarahan is a great place to relax for a few days.
