This beautiful Himalayan town is located in the upper part of Dharamshala in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. It was established as British settlement during British Rule in India and named after David McLeod. Now it is the headquarters of Tibetan government in exile and the residence of the Dalai Lama. Because of its Tibetan culture this hill station is also called “Little Lhasa.” Being in the lap of Himalayas this small town offer many activities for its visitors.
Cycling
to Palampur

which will always be fresh in your memory. Located about 24 kilometers from
McLeodganj amid the Dhauladhar Ranges
in the Kangra Valley,
Palampur is also known as the tea city of the Northern India
because of its tea gardens. Cycling past the tea garden along the zigzag
mountain road is an experience of a lifetime. It is the romantic destination of
the Kangra Valley
with its Pines and Deodars woods fragrance in the atmosphere.
Trekking
in Kangra
Kangra
is located just 19 kilometers from McLeodganj but is the ultimate destination
for those interested in trekking in the Himalayan
Ranges. There are many lush green
valleys, springs and mountain ranges in Kangra. Most of these trekking
expeditions start from McLeodganj or Dharmshala. Spending time overcoming the challenges
of The Mighty Himalayan Ranges and discovering some of the hidden beauty of
Mother Nature is truly mesmerizing in the trekking.
Norbulingka
Institute
This is the best way to understand the Tibetan art and culture. The institute is situated about 15 kilometers on the outskirts of McLeodganj and was established by Dalai Lama. It is the center for continuation and training of Tibet art and craft. Here you will also get a chance to interact with the crafts person who are busy weaving clothes or in woodwork. You can also see the photographic exhibition of the establishment of this institute in one of the building. However more amazing is the Losel Doll Museum which is pretty dolls dressed up in traditional dress of Tibet depicting life of people in each region of Tibet as well as their dance and festivals.
Triund
Edit This18 km from Dharamshala, Triund lies at the feet of the perpetually snow clad Dhauladhar at the height of 2975 m. The snow line starts at Ilaqa (3350 mtr), 5km from Triund. It is a popular picnic and trekking spot. The tracks from Rawa, Dal Lake, Dharamkot and Bhagsunag meet at a ridge known as Galu temple (2130 mtr) which has a small shrine and water point. After the snow nullah the trek rises abruptly waving through 22 curves making the ascent tiring and difficult.
