First time visitors may find Goa a little overwhelming.  Those accustomed to European resorts will have a travel experience that will be more colourful, challenging and ultimately rewarding.

A few tips that I would suggest after 11 visits to Goa:

Relax, most people you will come across will be very friendly and safe.

However, use your common sense. Don't be out on the beach or remote spots on your own especially at night. Being part of a group after all is much more fun!

Enjoy the food. Try eating at some of the 'locals' cafes and restaurants - go to Panjim for an evening meal and take the advice of your (Probably very friendly) taxi driver.

Visit one of the spice plantations

Use Indian anti-mozzie cream.  Almost certainly more effective than any you could buy at home.

Understand the social structure.  Pay attention to who you meet. There is a difference between a local catholic indian, a visiting Islamic trader from Northern India, displaced Tibetans, Hindus, Saddhus etc.  Use your common sense and try to act with respect to others beliefs and interests.

Visit a Hindu temple.

Don't overdo alcohol / food etc.  Having a hangover or Delhi belly in roasting hot sunshine just ain't enjoyable.
